Welcome to the web-home of...
Angelos and Leto Katakouzenos.
The fairytale life of Angelos and Leto began in the 1930s and ended in 1997. Active members of the Athenian society and yet deeply cultured and creative, the important neurologist and his wife experienced a life of literary and artistic merits. The totality of poets, authors, artists and scholars that placed their mark on modern Greece belonged to their company of friends alongside many European and American intellectuals.
Their home on Amalias Avenue was one of the great salons literaires of the so-called '30s generation. The unique collection amassed by the Katakouzenoi bears evidence to the ambiance and deep feelings between members of this generation. Dozens of paintings trace the evolution of painters like Theophilos Hadjimichail, Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika, Georgios Gounaropoulos, Spyros Vassileiou, Theleia Flora-Karavia, Gerasimos Vokos, Giannis Tsarouchis, Marc Chagall and many more. Sculptures, rare books and humble objects, testimonies of a tumultuous life, complete the picture. There is no other place in modern Athens with so many memories distilled in pieces of furniture, paintings and books.
The Angelos and Leto Katakouzenos Foundation is making an effort since its inception in 1998 to preserve and promote this rare heritage while investing in the future, a new generation.
The Angelos and Leto Katakouzenos Residence opens its doors once more thanks to the people that believed in its magical story, thanks to all of you that visit it and, as in every other fairytale, thanks to a good fairy that saved it with her magic touch.
